Whitstabe Beach Cottage - Seasalter Bay - The Perfect Location
Our beach house is located just outside of Whitstable, right on the beach at Seasalter in the centre of Whitstable bay. By car we are approximately 90 minutes from London, or 45 minutes from the M25/Dartford Crossing and just off of the A2/A299 Thanet Way.
You'll see from our photos, that we have a large raised deck overlooking a sheltered garden and a second wild garden that's just yards from the sea, inside and out the beach house provides an ever changing panoramic sea view which takes in Whitstable to the East, right across to horizon to the Isle of Sheppy and the Swale Estuary in the West.
The beach at Seasalter runs right across the bay and will form part of the England Coastal Path. If you enjoy a walk you can walk right across into Whitstable, or more locally down the beach to the Oyster Pearl Pub and Restaurant, or in the opposite direction along to the Seasalter Sailing Club and further on to The Sportsman Michelin Starred Restaurant and to the beaches beyond.
Across Faversham Road on the other side of the house, are the Seasalter levels which are a Local Nature Reserve and a site of Special Scientific Interest managed by the RSPB, so if you're a birdwatcher you'll see a wide variety of birds and waterfowl including wigeon, teal, redshank and lapwing as well as skylark, meadow pipit, yellow wagtail and mallards, shelducks, coots and moorhens, plus our resident Swans. On the seaward side we also have the local sea birds and waders, plus a host of migratory birds that visit in the season.
If you enjoy sea fishing, you can fish from the beach or from the jetty 30m from the house. If you prefer fresh water fishing, the dykes that drain the Seasalter Levels opposite are stocked with Rudd, Roach and Perch as well as Pike, Tench, Bream and the occasional Carp and provides some very good fishing. Being just yards from the house, it's perfect for a spot of night fishing with all the comforts of home, just across the road.
If you are exploring our part of Kent, Whitstable town with its historic harbour, interesting and eclectic shops and plentiful restaurants is just a couple of miles away. The town is famous for its Oysters and the extremely popular Whitstable Oyster festival, which is held annually in July.
Faversham is also well worth a visit and again is steeped in history, both nautical and more famously for brewing, Shepherd Neame still have their main brewery in the town and make some excellent local beers including it's famous, Spitfire. If you are in the area you can tour the brewery yourself and also taste its beers.
Faversham Creek and Conyer Creek are both worth a visit, especially if you want to see Thames Barges and traditional wooden boats, with Gaff cutters still being built in Conyer.
Six miles to the South is Canterbury, with its Cathedral, beautiful old buildings and extensive shopping, it's a magnet for visitors from home and abroad.
Further afield the towns of Thanet provide many more places to visit, Herne Bay, Broadstairs, Margate, Ramsgate and Sandwich are all in easy reach, so there's no shortage of places to go.
That is if course if you can tear yourself away. You’ll find being right on the beach and just taking in the view can be reward in itself and summer or winter there's something for everyone to enjoy.
